6 Steps To Prevent A Fall

It's Fall! We made it through the Summer 🌞and here we are entering Fall - cooler weather ⛅is on the horizon! But as we contemplate the fun activities 🎃🍗Fall brings, we also need to consider the other type of "fall" too. September 22nd was not only the first full day of Fall, it was also National Fall Prevention Awareness Day! See what they did there? And whilst we like to think that every day SHOULD be Fall Prevention Day, the reality is that falling is the biggest cause of injury to older adults. In fact, sadly, 1 in 4 Americans over the age of 65, WILL experience a fall in the next 12 months. Who do you know who is at risk of falling?

According to the National Council On Aging (NCOA), every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the ER for a fall related injury and every 19 minutes, an older adult DIES from falling. Inevitably, a growing number of older adults now FEAR falling and as such limit their activities and social engagements. This can lead to further physical decline, social isolation and depression. 😱

Thankfully, falling is NOT an inevitable result of aging 😊. Through practical lifestyle adjustments đŸ„—đŸ‰, evidence-based falls prevention programsđŸ’Ș🧘‍ and clinical-community partnershipsđŸ‘©â€âš•ïž, the number of falls among seniors can be substantially reduced. WE CAN HELP! Please pass on this information to someone who would benefit from it.
